Today we dive in the ape archives to present an alternate version of page 15.

Now you might say, "Why, that looks supercool as is! Why fix it if it ain't broke?"

To which I would reply "Because I can."

You see, young Gabe Ostley draws whatever I tell him to. He simply can't help it. He is compelled. So on occasion I enjoy making him redraw perfectly good pages just for heehaws and jollies. And he totally does it! It's nuts!

...

Nah. It was really kind of a timing thing. The page needed to denote something of a transition from one scene to the next, and with Monkeyface looking back over his shoulder he seemed to be a little bit too "in the moment" to indicate the transition we were looking for.

See, now wasn't the first explanation more fun?

It's time for another peek... BEHIND THE MONKEY!

That's right, it's that exciting portion of the Monkeybunnyüberblog experience where we take a peek under the skirts of the Monkeymen and see if they really go commando.

Let's breakdown the process of page 30, shall we?

SCRIPT:

Page 30

Panel 1

Long panel, long shot. Monkeyface walks down the sidewalk. There are a few other pedestrians. The pack of about a dozen Ninjas spin and cartwheel over the rooftops and fire escapes of the neighborhood brownstones, trailing their prey.

Panel 2

Close on Monkeyface as he turns a corner. Worm's eye view. Up and over MF's shoulder we can see the ninjas leaping across the buildings, still on his trail.

Panel 3

Over the shoulder shot of the ninjas on the corner of a building. Monkeyface is now walking down a deserted side street - street lamps throwing pools of light in the gloom. One of the Ninjas draws back a bow and arrow, aiming at Monkeyface.

Panel 4

An arrow whizzes toward an oblivious Monkeyface.

SFX: Fffffffft

Panel 5

At the last second, Monkeyface whirls and catches the arrow in his fist.

Panel 6

Angle on the ninjas, all of them pulling back their bowstrings.

But that's all about to change next Wednesday when the Monkeybunnyüberblog will present page one of a special 10 or so page pre-Hammer prequel:

A Tale of Two Fiddys!

We've been kicking this thing around for awhile. The script was a leftover from the old Halcyon Hammer days and we were gonna use it as a bit of filler to give the Hammerfans something to chew on between Seasons. First Rob was gonna draw it. Then Gabe was gonna draw it. Then The Hammer didn't get picked up, Zuda collapsed, and everyone just sort of forgot about the darn thing.

So then I (that's Sam Little to you) decided to dust it off and see what I could do with it for old time's sake. The result is kind of a hodgepodge of sketches that I cobbled together while lying around on the beach drinking beer. And it probably shows. But I'm pretty pleased with it all in all.

So check in next Wednesday, and nine Wednesdays thereafter, for a reunion with our pal Buck Fiddy as he waxes nostalgic about Big Daddy Tree.

So this week's page marks the end of what was our initial 8 page Zuda pitch for Kung Fu Monkeyface. It is also (alas) the last page that will bear the colorful mark of the man called Steiner. Steve did a fabulous job on these pages as he always does and he will be mightily missed. Perhaps we can coax him back for a guest appearance down the line.

It's a good day for rabbits.

As you might have noticed we've rejiggered the site a bit to accomodate the impending resurgence of a certain angry pink bunny.

That's right, Hammerheads.
School is back in session.

If you've been keeping your ear close to the internet, you'll have noticed that although Zuda-that-was is no more, a lot of our fine friends and favorite comics have been re-emerging as part of the overall DC comics digital umbrella over at the Comixology site. A few of the old favorites are already up and word's come down from on high that The Hammer will soon be joining them.

Details are still sketchy, but for starters it'll be a relaunch of the initial Hammer tale. If enough bunnylovers download the darn thing then I guess there's a chance for more hops down the bunny trail with ol' Calvin after that. Time will tell. So tell your friends! And keep an eye on the MonkeyBunnyUberblog for breaking news.

Greetings Monkeyshiners!

Today's the day we kick off the long-awaited Kung Fu Monkeyface comic. Yippee!

So here's the skinny - Monkeyface is the brain baby of me (Sam Little) and him (Gabe Ostley) with a little help from our friend in bunnies Steve Steiner. The plan is to trundle along with our little simian story with once weekly updates right here on the ol' Hammer blog that was. This is kind of an experiment for me and Gabe - doing it mostly for the sheer fun of it and to see if we can manage to churn out an actual graphic novel together when all is said and done. We're gonna be posting KFM as a work in progress and let things evolve as we go along. Steve the stein stein stein steinmeister is only with us for the first eight pages unfortunately (sometimes life just gets in the way) so we may bring in some additional artists and colorists. Or we may just color the pages ourselves. Or post the uncolored pencils for awhile. Or pretty much do whatever we durn well please. That's just how the Monkeymen roll.

At any rate, we're in this to amuse ourselves and have a grand old time. Hopefully we'll infect a few followers with our good humor along the way and end up with a satisfying tale of monkeys, maidens and kick ass kung fu at the end of the road.

The plan's to post a new page each and every sunday, right here on the blog as well as over on Untrue Tales. We'll probably post some sketches and behind the scenes stuff in between as well as time allows.The Monkey may even pop up in a few other places eventually. You'll hear it here first.

Good day you Dang Dirty Apes! Here are some more facts brought to light in The Book of Monkeyface:

-Kung Fu Monkeyface is being laid out and pencilled right now. Many pages are already finished.

-Kung Fu Monkeyface is planned to be about 180 pages.

-The Monkeymen are waiting to hear back from certain publishers, and they are hoping to hear back soon. Oh how they wait! Nary a fingernail in sight!

-Even if Kung Fu Monkeyface isn't picked up by a publisher, the story will be continued and you will be able to read it right here. The launch date and update schedule is still being ironed out.
